i already transferred files(movie,photos,documents%26amp;music) to the slave drive. what other type of files can i safely transfer to it? can i transfer some components of windows %26amp; program files?|||No, moving windows and program files is not recommended.
I would think your main drive will have at the most 10 GB of files if you moved all your movie, photos, docs files to your other drive. There isn`t much more you can move.
If it is really necessary, rather than just moving your program files to the other drive, you need to uninstall some programs and select the other drive when you reinstall.|||yes - the swap file.
mine is set to 1500mb minimum and 3000mb max. also, i have moved it to a relatively unused drive on the same disk. typically it is about 1533mb during average use but grows and shrinks accordingly.
you can change this by going to control panel, system icon. in the system properties go to the advanced tab, then open the performance settings button. from there you should see a list of drive letters, select the one you think will work best, add the min / max parameters to it and remove them from the existing drive. final step is a full system shutdown and restart.
you are moving the swap file - not program files - so at worst the system will complain about virtual memory and run very slowly. simply reverse the settings to the way they were and all should be well.
just for fun, see if you can find a mini-program called jdisk report. it does a really nice colored, graphed scan of each drive and shows files by size in a variety of charts so you can find lost and forgotten junk and any unnecessary stuff left over from the web, deleted programs, etc. you'd be surprised how much bloat there is buried on your disk.
good luck.
